Street Art Sunday – Grand Bazaar, Istanbul, Turkey

So – every Sunday – whichever part of the world I am – I’m going to get out images of raw street art that I find and post it here. It can be anything from paintings, chalk drawings on walls, graffiti, murals, photographs, weird store and restaurant names and logos, interesting and striking doors and walls and gates, interesting play on language – just about anything that is unique and artistic – by way of colors and language – I’m going to feature it here.

Uff! There is SO MUCH ART in Istanbul. It’s like Florence, Italy. Everywhere you look…there is something spectacular that catches your eye. The history, the culture, the colors…the smorgasbord of colors, the food, the smells, the men (oh, the flirty Turkish men!) – I was there for eight days and I feel like I have just about started to scratch the surface of the place.

I will have SO MUCH art from Istanbul – it’s not even funny. The Blue Mosque, The Hagia Sophia, the Bosphorous, Topkapi and more and these are just from Istanbul. I also traveled to Izmir and Cappadocia and there’s so much more from there also. I cannot wait to bring those pictures to you in the next few months.

But to launch the Turkey series – I’m starting with what I call Hawker Art. The breathtaking display of tea and spices and lanterns and desserts at Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar is artistic in and of of itself.

I’m launching my Hawker Art series with Grand Bazaar, Istanbul today. Over the course of the next many months I will try and bring you more examples of Hawker Art from all over the world. The level of detail that goes into arranging their products so as to appeal and attract customers – one can only watch and marvel.
